Somerset Accountancy has been supporting businesses since 1992. Over that time, we have built long-term relationships with owner-managed businesses, helping them manage their finances, plan ahead and make better decisions.
We are a small, experienced team of chartered accountants, based in Somerton. We work with businesses across the South West and beyond.
Our Story
Somerset Accountancy was founded in 1992 by Lois Short as a sole practitioner. The firm was incorporated in 2002 as Somerset Accountancy Services Limited. Bruce Evans joined as Director in 2020 and took ownership of the practice in 2022. Lois remained involved as a director until 2024, ensuring continuity and a smooth transition.
For over 35 years, we have worked with owner-managed businesses, providing accountancy, tax and advisory services. The practice has evolved considerably over this time, but our commitment to building long-term relationships and delivering high-quality work remains unchanged.
Evolving to Meet Modern Business Needs
The role of an accountant has changed. Businesses now require more than year-end compliance — they need:

Professional Standards and Regulation
We are regulated by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), having transitioned from AAT regulation in 2024. ICAEW regulation is a mark of professional quality and provides clients with access to formal complaints procedures and professional indemnity protection.
We hold Xero Gold Partner status and are a certified Profit First Professionals firm.
A Broader Service Offering
Over time, we have expanded the services we offer to support clients more fully. This now includes:
- accounting and tax
- outsourced finance department services
- business growth and advisory
- estate and succession planning, including probate
- Profit First implementation and coaching
Our estate planning and probate services are delivered through Somerset Accountancy Wills Ltd, authorised by the Institute of Professional Willwriters (IPW) and by the ICAEW for probate activities.

You will always know who is looking after your account. We don’t operate as a call centre and we don’t pass work between anonymous teams.
